Correspondent Kim Tae-jong and Choi In-young = Microsoft (MS) announced on the 3rd (local time) that a Russian organization is strengthening the spread of false information online targeting France and the Paris Olympics.
MS announced this on its blog that day, saying, “This activity is an attempt by two Russian organizations, ‘Storm-1679’ and ‘Storm-1099,’ to disparage the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and create the impression that this Olympics will be marred by violence. “It was planned for this purpose,” he said.
“These organizations attempted to fabricate threats to the Olympics by impersonating armed organizations amid the war between Israel and Hamas,” Microsoft emphasized, adding, “This is the most concerning disinformation.”
The Russian organization created 15 fake news sites and even made a feature-length documentary film to spread false information.
Digitally generated graffiti images threatening violence against Israeli athletes participating in the Paris Olympics were also discovered.
In particular, Microsoft said that some of these references the murder of 11 Israeli athletes by Palestinian militants at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
In the case of ‘Storm-1679’, a film called ‘The Olympics Has Fallen’ was produced in June last year to disparage the IOC’s leadership, and actor Tom Cruise’s fake voice was used in this film.
Microsoft warned, “Such activities have increased since the IOC’s decision late last year to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Olympics as a neutral country. As the Olympics approach, such activities may increase further.“
In response to this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed it as a criticism without substance, saying at a briefing on the 4th, “It is an absolute slander and has nothing to do with reality.” 섯다
