Kim Hyun-jong, the high-scoring rookie who dazzled manager Yoon Kyung-yeop with his hot batting average of .571 during spring training, answered questions from the media like a rookie after returning home.
The LG Twins returned home from their 2024 spring training camp in Arizona, USA, at dawn on the 4th through Incheon International Airport. Starting with manager Yeom Kyung-yup, the players packed their gear and greeted the fans as they left the arrival hall. Even though it was as early as 5 a.m., LG fans were at the airport to welcome the players back from spring training.
The hottest player in the LG Twins’ spring training camp is rookie Kim Hyun-jong. Kim has been hitting like a hot shot during spring training, showing off his skills even amongst the veterans. Kim has been recognized for his hitting talent since his days at Incheon High School, where he batted .588 in the weekend league during his senior year, leading the league in batting average, RBIs (11), and home runs (2).
Kim took a year off to rehabilitate from shoulder surgery. 스포츠토토 He started his professional career a year later than his peers, but as if he had been waiting for it, he showed off his hitting talent in spring training and impressed manager Yoon Kyung-yup.
When he met with the press after returning home, Kim was uncharacteristically calm for a rookie.
When asked about his hot hitting during spring training, Kim said, “I knew it was in the news because my coaches and seniors told me about it. (I) purposely didn’t look at it. I focused on training from the beginning to the end like I was supposed to,” he said.
Before the camp, he said that he wanted to learn a lot from the great outfielders, and when asked about his experience during the camp, he said, “I asked Park Hae-min a lot about defense. He taught me a lot. The balls that came at me in high school and in the pros were completely different. He told me that it was completely different from high school, and I learned it all over again,” he said, expressing his gratitude to Park for his generous teaching.
“The coaches worked hard to correct my form and batting, and I learned a lot, and it worked out well. I always try to make bold plays, and I’m going to do that now that I’m with the LG Twins,” he said with a calm expression uncharacteristic of a rookie.
The defending champions boast the deepest outfield among the 10 teams. From Kim Hyun-soo, Park Hae-min, Hong Chang-ki, Moon Sung-joo, and Lee Jae-won, there isn’t a player who isn’t hot.
The season will be interesting to see if high school rookie Kim Hyun-jong, who has been batting .540 in spring training amongst the stellar seniors, can earn a spot in the Jamsil outfield this season.
