Coach Park Jin-man: “Lee Seung-hyun pitches well at home… Other pitchers should learn from this”

Professional baseball’s Samsung Lions have sharply different home and away win percentages this season.

Samsung recorded 9 wins, 12 losses, and a winning percentage of 0.429 in 21 home games held at Daegu Samsung Lions Park this year, but was very strong in away games with 17 wins, 7 losses, 1 draw, and a winning percentage of 0.708.

The reason why Samsung is weak at home can be found in the performance of its starting pitchers.

Foreign pitcher Denny Reyes had an ERA of 5.48 in five home games, and Connor Siebold had an ERA of 6.43 in four games.

While Reyes was strong with an ERA of 2.97 and Connor’s ERA of 3.16 in the away game, he hardly showed any strength in Daegu.

Korean ace Won Tae-in also had an outstanding ERA of 1.50 in visiting games, but recorded 3.31 at home.

Samsung coach Park Jin-man said ahead of the home game against KT Wiz held at Daegu Samsung Lions Park on the 21st, “There seems to be a psychological problem.

The pitchers appear to be avoiding batters when facing batters at their home stadium (a batter-friendly stadium) and pitch. “The number has increased,” he said, adding, “Our pitchers need to pitch more aggressively at home.”

He said, “(Left-handed starting pitcher) Seung-Hyun Lee actually pitches well at home,” and added, “He doesn’t avoid batters and confronts them quickly, which is something other pitchers should learn as well.”

Seung-Hyun Lee achieved a good ERA of 1.29 in four home games this season.

However, coach Jin-man Park also encouraged the starting pitchers, saying that their tendency to perform poorly in home games is gradually improving.

Coach Park said, “Reyes and Connor had a hard time adjusting to the stadium mound at the beginning of the season, but they have improved a lot now,” and added, “They will get better as time goes on.”

As Coach Park said, Samsung pitchers are gradually gaining strength in home games.

Reyes has an ERA of 3.48 in two home games since May, and Connor has an ERA of 3.60 in one game.

Won Tae-in also pitched 6 scoreless innings in the most recent home game against the Doosan Bears on the 8th.
