Sookmyung Women’s High School wins its third title of the season.
Sookmyung Women’s High School defeated Sufia Women’s High School 84-60 in the girls’ finals of the recently concluded 2024 Secondary School Basketball Weekend League Wangjoong Wangjeon, winning their third title of the season. Led by Lee Min-ji (32 points), Song Yoon-ha (24 points), Kim Yeon-jin (13 points), and others, Sookmyung Women’s High School got solid performances from all of its 토토사이트 추천 players to win the triple crown.
The result was even more valuable for Sookmyung Women’s College as it was achieved with a novice coach. Coach Lee Eun-hye, who started her coaching career at her alma mater, joined Woori Bank in the 2007-2008 season and played until 2018. After retiring, she played for the Sacheon City Government and took her first steps as a coach at her alma mater earlier this year.
Coach Lee Eun-hye, who led the team to three titles, said, “It’s still a bit surreal. We played two tournaments in a row, from the Jongbyeol to the Wangjoong Wangjeon, so I think I’m tired and my body is tired, but I feel good,” she said.
The coach continued, “We focused on defense. Each opponent had a different style, so each team had a different defense. We had a short period of time where we practiced in parts, and the players were able to recognize those parts and move well,” he said of the tournament.
The first-time head coach credits his players for the success in his first season.
“I’ve got a good group of players, and I tend to tell them (to) play for the team, not for themselves. I tell them that it’s not only the players who are playing, but also the bench that needs to be on the same page to win. I think the players have realized that, so I think they have done a good job,” said Lee.
Sookmyung Women’s High School made the best of a tough schedule of six games in six days. The coach said the quarterfinal match against Sunil Women’s High School was the biggest challenge.
“During the tournament, Ha Eun-yi (Yoo) suffered a slight injury. Even in the semifinals, we didn’t want her to play. I was able to win because she was not fully fit. I’m worried about her (fitness) because we’re going into the draft, but she’s recovering now. Ha Eun-i really helped the team in both offense and defense. In the quarterfinals, we were able to get over the hump thanks to her defense.”
After this tournament, the team’s three eldest players (Lee Min-ji, Song Yoon-ha, and Yoo Ha-eun) will participate in the WKBL Rookie Draft, which is scheduled to take place on May 20th.
In closing, the coach had a message of encouragement for his players as they head to the pros.
He said, “You may be the best player here, but in the pros, you have to go back to being the youngest. If they can get through the tough times, they will get their chance. They are very sincere players, so if they go to a good team and persevere, they will do well,” he said, wishing them well in the pros.
