The contract period between Korea Gas Corporation and Director Kang is two years.
Coach Kang has been leading the team in an acting capacity since Korea Gas Corporation parted ways with former coach Yoo Do-hoon after the 2022-2023 season.
While there are clubs (KCC, SK) whose total annual salary exceeds the cap of 2.8 billion won,
Korea Gas Corporation used up only 69.2% to form a team.
As of August last year, Korea Gas Corporation was the only team among the 10 teams whose total annual salary did not exceed 2 billion won.
Although it was a difficult situation for the head coach, under Manager Kang,
Korea Gas Corporation performed better than expected before the opening, and rose to 7th place with 17 wins and 26 losses.
They beat Goyang Sono (14 wins, 28 losses), Anyang Cheongkwanjang (13 wins, 29 losses), and Seoul Samsung (9 wins, 33 losses).
Coach Kang made a name for himself as a capable guard during his active years,
including being selected as one of the top five defensive players for four consecutive seasons starting from the 2003-2004 season,
and being selected as the MVP of the championship game in the 2005-2006 season.
Kang Hyuk, who finished his career as a player at Incheon Electronic Land,
the predecessor of Korea Gas Corporation, in 2013,
served as coach of Samil Commercial High School and coach of Changwon LG before joining the coaching staff of Korea Gas Corporation, and was promoted to the head coach.
Coach Kang said, “I am grateful to the club for their trust.
“We will finish the remaining season well,” he said.
“Next season, we will make up for the shortcomings in detail to create a team that fans and players can enjoy.”
“We will try to have more fans come to Daegu’s home stadium,” he said.
