Heungkuk Life stretches its lead with an upset win over Korea Expressway Corporation.
Heungkuk Life won the fourth round of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League against Korea Expressway Corporation 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-13, 25-21) on Wednesday at its home court, Samsan World Gymnasium in Incheon.
With the valuable win, Heungkuk Life extended its winning streak to three games and remained in second place with an 18-5 record and 50 points. They moved to within two points of leader 토토사이트 Hyundai E&C (17-5, 52 points), which has played one less match.
Korea Expressway Corporation, on the other hand, remained in sixth place with 7 W-16 D-22 points. The two teams have met four times this season, with Heungkuk Life holding a 3-1 advantage.
Heungkuk Life was led by Kim Yeon-kyung with 28 points (56% offensive success rate) and Reina with 20 points (38%). With Yelena struggling with 8 points (20%), the team had a difficult situation but managed to get out of it with their one-two punch.
Korea Express had 24 points (27%) from Vukiric, 15 points (30%) from Bae Yuna, and 12 points (37%) from Lee Yerim, but were unable to close out the second set.
The tide seemed to be turning early in the first set when Roadworks took a 15-9 lead. However, Heungkuk Life quickly turned the tide, scoring back-to-back points on Kim Yeon-kyung’s back attack and Kim Soo-ji’s serve to take a 17-15 lead. It was eight points in a row.
Doro Corporation fought back to tie the score at 19-19 with a block by Bae Yuna after a back attack by Vukiric. The match was eventually decided on a deuce. DOT took the set. At 25-25, Vukiric scored twice in a row.
The second set was tight until late in the set. It was an endless battle until 22-22. After Heungkuk Life took a one-point lead with a back-attack by Kim Yeon-kyung, Doro tied the score with a point by Vukiric.
In the clutch, Heungkuk Life took the lead with a point from Reina. They then won the set with a block by Lee Ju-ah.
The third set was a complete victory for Heungkuk Life. They took the lead with an 8-4 double score thanks to Kim Yeon-kyung’s points from the beginning, and ran up to 14-6 thanks to Reina’s back-attack and Kim Yeon-kyung’s point. Roadworks found it difficult to catch up as Vukiric’s attack went out.
Fourth set. It was a close game again. At 16-16, Tanacha’s two service points gave DOT a two-point lead. Heungkuk Life used two kills by Kim Yeon-kyung and three opponent errors to pull ahead 22-19.
The Roadrunners made a late push with two kills from Lee Yerim, but that was it. Heungkuk Life smiled with victory.
