‘National Team’ Lee Yi-ri wins 6 games despite pitching woes
Korean baseball player Lee Yi-ri of the KIA Tigers recorded a win in his first start since being named to the Hangzhou Asian Games team. His delivery was shaky for a while, but he settled back down and picked up his sixth win of the season. Lee Yi-ri, who made the Asian Games team, blanked Doosan hitters through the first two innings. But in the third inning, his pitch faltered. After giving up a leadoff single to Kim Jae-ho, he allowed a walk and a bunt single to load the bases. Lee Yi-ri flew out on a grounder in front of Jung Soo-bin’s pitcher and tossed the ball to first base to extend the out count. After taking a two-run lead in the fifth on Choi Hyung-woo’s RBI single and a Doosan error, KIA added another run in the casinositeking ninth for a 6-3 victory. Lee, who allowed three runs in six innings, earned his sixth win of the season with the help of his bats. “I had a little bit of a crisis, but I think it was good that I was able to get through the other innings a little faster and get them to the sixth inning.” Kim Hye-sung’s thunderous home run in the top of the second inning brought a smile to starter Ahn Woo-jin’s face. Kim Hye-sung helped Ahn with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. With the early support, Ahn went on to pitch seven innings, striking out nine and allowing one run. Kiwoom ended KT’s seven-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory. Samsung defeated Lotte in front of a sold-out crowd at Lions Park in Daegu.
